Trade unions against decommissioning Ennore Thermal Power Station

Chennai: Trade unions are making last ditch efforts to impress upon the Tangedco's administration from shutting down the four decades old 340 mw Ennore Thermal Power Station with the last sitting of the  chief engineer mechanical thermal headed committee, which was formed to recommend a road map for decommissioning the plant, scheduled on Tuesday.

CITU affiliated Central Organisation of Tamil Nadu Electricity Employees (COTEE) has written to Tangedco CMD urging him not to decommission the ETPS until the 660 mw Ennore Expansion power project begins generation. “The units 1 (60 mw), 3 and 4 (110 mw each) are in good operational condition. The power can be generated at a low cost of Rs 4.5 per unit,” COTEE general secretary S.S. Subramanian said.
