WARANGAL: Services provided by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in four districts of the erstwhile Karimnagar region have remained disrupted for the past four days, affecting around three lakh customers.

The disruption comes following a major fire mishap at BSNL’s main telephone exchange at Tower Circle in Karimnagar due to an electric short circuit. Telecommunication equipment worth ₹2 crores got damaged.

Authorities immediately brought new equipment from Hyderabad and started the restoration of telecommunication and internet services. But as repair works are going on at a snail’s pace, the people of Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla and Jagtial districts are facing problems.

The area has 2,61,515 prepaid and 1,270 post-paid cell phone connections, with 3,724 landlines, 6,751 fibre to the home and 70 OLTT consumers. They are facing problems with regard to telecommunications, internet, banking, e-governance and other facilities.

Restoration works are going on under the supervision of BSNL Warangal general manager Chandramouli and Karimnagar deputy general manager Dinesh.

Merchants using BSNL services are a troubled lot, as the lack of services is causing losses to them. Some of them are shifting to other service providers
