HYDERABAD: Youth Congress leaders led by city president Motha Rohit held a demonstration at Amberpet to demand the resignation of Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi for not controlling the menace posed by stray dogs. Last week, strays mauled a four-year-old child to death at Amberpet.

They brought along what they said were strays, and demanded that the Mayor adopt the animals as she was sympathetic towards dogs.

"The Mayor should resign for her insensitive statements following the incident where the child was killed by stray dogs in Amberpet. We caught a few stray dogs and sending them to the Mayor's house so that she could feed them well. KTR is also equally responsible for this," said Rohit.

The leaders said that they were deeply dissatisfied with the comments made by Mayor and minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav. They felt that contrary to claims by minister K.T. Rama Rao that Hyderabad was a world-class city, in reality, it had transformed into a city where lakhs of dogs roamed, posing a danger to children and the elderly.
