Minorities have benefited most from Shaadi Mubarak scheme

HYDERABAD: Among all the welfare schemes being implemented by the state government for minorities, the Shaadi Mubarak and residential schools have benefitted a large number of families, according to data released by the minorities welfare department here on Friday.

Around 2,28,200 people availed of Shaadi Mubarak scheme since it was launched by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao in 2014-15.

The government said it had has spent Rs 2,165 crore on the scheme till 2022-23. Under the scheme, the government is extending financial assistance of Rs 1,00,116 each for the poor among the minorities to perform marriage of daughters.

The state government also established 204 minority residential schools besides upgrading them as junior colleges. Nearly 1,30,560 students are getting admissions in these English medium schools and colleges every year along with free hostel, mess and other facilities.

Each school has 640 students. While 107 schools were set up for boys, 97 schools are for girls.

Under the Chief Minister's Overseas Scholarship Scheme for minorities that was launched in 2015-16 for extending Rs 20 lakh financial assistance to students keen on pursuing education abroad, 2,725 minority students got the benefit to the tune of Rs 436 crore.

The government allocated Rs 100 crore for this scheme in the 2022-23 Budget besides another Rs 40 crore for post-matric scholarships and Rs 150 crore for tuition fee reimbursement.
