Customary welcome for jumbos today in Mysuru

The first batch of six pachyderms, Arjuna, Balarama, Abhimanyu, Gajendra, Cauvery and Vijaya, were brought to the city on Sunday.

Mysuru: The Dasara jumbos now resting at Aloka Palace premises, will be traditionally welcomed at the courtyards of Mysuru Palace on Friday evening. For the first time, in view of the security threat, the forest department will be installing five CCTV cameras for the security of the Dasara veterans.

The first batch of six pachyderms, Arjuna, Balarama, Abhimanyu, Gajendra, Cauvery and Vijaya, were brought to the city on Sunday. On Friday, the caparisoned pachyderms will be brought to Jayamarthanda gate of Mysuru Palace, where they will be traditionally welcomed by the district in-charge minister and other officials with full honours at 4.30 pm.

Twelve  temporary tents have been erected for accommodating mahouts and kavadis and their families on the Mysuru Palace courtyard. An Ayush clinic, provision for a library and school have been made for the benefit of  children of the mahouts who will miss school till Dasara.
