Cheeyambath: Tiger on prowl finally captured

The 13-year-old male tiger\'s one eye, left hand and one teeth has been injured, according to forest officials.

KALPETTA: The tiger which attacked a forest watcher on Sunday at Cheeyambath in Pulpally fell in the trap laid down by forest department on Monday early morning. The 13-year-old male tiger's one eye, left hand and one teeth has been injured, according to forest officials.

The tiger had entered the inhabited area of Cheeyambath and reportedly pre-yed upon domestic anim-als. Following widespread complaints forest department had fixed two traps in the forest.

On Sunday, when a team of forest watchers were looking at the possibility of forest fire in the blazing heat, the big cat pounced on them. The forest watcher Shajan was attacked and suffered serious injury. The other four forest watc-hers ran away and they fell on the way causing injur-ies. Shajan is undergoing treatment at Kozhikode government medical College hospital.

Following the incident, an agitated people blocked the Cheeyambath-Pulpally-Sulthan Bathery road demanding immediate measures to trap the tiger. The captured tiger is being  transported to the zoo in Thiruvananthapuram.
