Jammikunta CI bags President Award for saving two lives
The officer received appreciation for this brave act from various circles
KARIMNAGAR: Jammikunta circle inspector Koripelly Srujan Reddy, who saved the lives of two persons stuck in a well in 2019, has been awarded the prestigious Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak on the occasion of 72nd Republic Day.
Srujan Reddy figures in the list of 40 Jeevan Raksha Padak awards announced by the Union home ministry on Monday evening. Of the awards, the Sarvotham Jeevan Raksha Padak is given to one person, the Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak to eight persons and 31 others are awarded the Jeevan Raksha Padak for conspicuous acts of bravery to rescue people in trouble.
On May 28, 2019, two persons, Ollala Mallaiah and Marepalli Ravinder, residents of Madipelli village in Jammikunta mandal, entered a well to deepen it but fainted inside due to inhalation of noxious gases.
Without giving thought to his own safety, Srujan Reddy, who rushed to the spot on hearing of the incident, held a rope and slid down the well twice to a depth of about 60 feet and brought them up. The officer received appreciation for this brave act from various circles.
Speaking to this newspaper, Srujan Reddy expressed his thanks to Deccan Chronicle for publishing the news first. The story was then followed up by others. He was motivated to apply for the award following a suggestion by Karimnagar police commissioner V.B. Kamalasan Reddy.
The CI said he got to know about the award through a phone call from one of his close associates. "My friends, family members and relatives have started calling and congratulating me. I am overwhelmed by their wishes,” he stated.
Srujan Reddy expressed his special thanks to the police commissioner for informing him about the awards and helping him in applying for them.
