Special SI commits suicide at Kasimedu fishing harbour

Harbour police have filed a case and are investigating whether the cause of his death is due to extensive workload or some other personal issue.

Chennai: A special sub-inspector from Korukkupet reportedly committed suicide on Tuesday morning. His body was found hanging from a tree in Kasimedu fishing harbour.

In the early hours, when fishermen were on their usual walk in the harbour, they found the body and immediately informed the police who later identified him to be Joseph (54), special sub-inspector, crime, Korukkupet.

He is a resident of Tondiarpet police headquarters and was missing for the past three days. Police say the victim's family last saw him on Saturday night.

Harbour police have filed a case and are investigating whether the cause of his death is due to extensive workload or some other personal issue.

His body has been sent to the nearest government hospital for autopsy.
Joseph is survived by his wife and two children. Further investigations are on.

The city has been witnessing continuous police suicides. Most of the policemen and women, especially those from constable to sub-inspector posts complain of high work pressure.
