Bengaluru: It was just another day for Yogesh Nandhi – a traffic constable attached to the Chickpet Traffic police station – checking traffic rule violators at the busy Sangolli Rayanna Circle on Thursday. But soon, it turned out to be special with loads of appreciation and blessings pouring in for his Good Samaritan act.

Yogesh heard the loud thud of a car ramming into the central median. Thinking that it was a case of rash driving or overspeeding, Yogesh rushed to the spot to check on the driver, only to see him suffering from an epileptic seizure. Though people gathered in no time, there was no one trying to rush him to a doctor.

Sensing the obvious reluctance of spectators, Yogesh, without a second thought, slid inside the car and drove it to a nearby private hospital. “It was a case of emergency as the driver had a severe epileptic attack. Many stood around the car and were offering advice. Instead of wasting time waiting for an ambulance, I drove the car to the hospital,” Yogesh told Deccan Chronicle.

While the treatment was on, Yogesh used the driver’s mobile phone to reach his family members. He was at the hospital till the family members arrived and handed over driver’s phone and watch to them. “Helping people is part of my job and that is what I have been taught during police training,” he said. A Facebook post describing Yogesh’s humanitarian gesture, uploaded by the Bangalore city police on its Facebook page, drew a lot of praise from netizens.
