Hyderabad: Leading educationist and industrialist Nawab Shah Alam Khan passed away here early on Monday due to age-related ailments. He was 96. He was associated with the Anwar-ul-Uloom Group of Institutions in the city.  Shah Alam Khan owned various industries in the city, including the Hyderabad Deccan Cigarette Factory that manufactured the Golconda brand of cigarettes. He was also known for his collection of antique cars and rose plants; he had a collection of up to 100 varieties.  He was also known for his philanthropy activities.

Namaz-e-Janaza was offered at the Masjid-e-Saleema Khatoon at Himayathnagar after Asr prayers.  Deputy Chief Minister Mohd. Mahmood Ali visited the residences of Shah Alam Khan at Barkatpura and offered condolences to the bereaved family.  Hyderabad MP Mr Asaduddin Owaisi, Congress MLC Mohd. Ali Shabbir and other eminent personalities were present at the funeral.
