THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Administrative Reforms Commission chairman V. S. Achuthanandan on Saturday said that it was a matter of pride for some to carry the tainted minister Thomas Chandy. The veteran leader said that certain sections want his presence that’s why he is still continuing in Cabinet. Mr Achuthanandan had earlier sought detailed investigations into the allegations levelled against the transport minister Thomas Chandy.

The CPM veteran had taken a firm stand on the issue right from the beginning when the allegations surfaced. He considers the alleged encroachment and reclamation of portion of Punnamada Lake serious enough to warrant strong action. Mr Achuthanandan's stand is more in sync with the demand raised by a section of NCP and opposition UDF for a detailed probe into the allegations.

The veteran leader is not prepared to give clean chit to Chandy without a probe since the allegations are of serious nature. The Administrative Reforms Commission chairman has all along taken a strong stand against reclamation of paddy land, lake and water bodies and encroachments.
