Kochi: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) initiated a quick verification against Maradu municipality officials for permitting “illegal” construction by the Hotel Crowne Plaza. The action was ordered on a complaint filed by Jayakumar K.S. and a few locals. As per the complaint, the hotel converted 4.55 acre of paddy fields into commercial land. Further, it was built in a No-Development Zone of CRZ-III area. It alleged the hotel got a bar licence despite proximity to a temple and that the Maradu municipality also granted life-term permit to the hotel building as against norms.
