Malkangiri: Business tycoon Anand Mahindra has come as a good samaritan for two Anganwadi workers who used to perform their duties by crossing a turbulent river with the help of pumpkin shells and empty pots.

While responding to a Twitterati, who had posted a video of the two Anganwadi workers- Hemalalta Sisa and Pramila Penel of Raniguda Pachayat under Chitrakonda village in Odisha’s Malkangiri district, Mahindra has offered to donate an inflatable boat.

Both the Anganwadi workers used to tie up dry pumpkin shells and empty pots across their waists as floats while crossing the flooded Gurupriya river for attending their duties due to lack of proper means of connectivity, including boats.

Anganwadi workers facilitate doorstep delivery of many services like nursery education, primary healthcare, mother and child care.

The video of such a perilous attempt by the Anganwadi workers had recently gone viral on social media.

Chitrakonda village is located in the Maoist hot-bed Swabhiman Anchal. Most of the inhabitants of the region belong to the tribal communities.
