TSRTC to hire 300 electric buses

HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has decided to hire 300 electric buses worth Rs 500 crore from a private firm. The decision is part of the Centre’s Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric (FAME)–II scheme to push for adoption of electric vehicles including buses, three-wheelers, passenger cars and two-wheelers.

The 300 e-buses, which will be delivered over a period of 20 months, will be run on a gross cost contract model basis for 12 years. During the period, the private firm will undertake the maintenance of these buses. The electric buses are equipped with CCTV cameras, an emergency button and USB sockets at each seat.
