Thiruvananathpauram: Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala has apologised to the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd authorities for the melee created by Congress workers during the ‘Janakeeya Yatra’  taken out by him and   former chief minister Oommen Chandy  on Tuesday. The ‘Janakeeya Yatra’ was held in protest against the exclusion of  UDF leaders from the inaugural event of the Kochi Metro on Saturday.

“We never thought that the yatra  would cause any inconvenience to others or damage the property. I have received complaints from many,  including the KMRL, and I tender my apology for  any inconvenience caused,”  said Mr Chennithala. Mr Chennithala,  who  inaugurated  the cleaning drive here on Thursday,  told reporters that the suicide of  farmer Kavilpurayidathil Joy, alias Thomas, 57, of Chakkittapara village in Kozhikode following harassments by officials was a serious lapse by the LDF government. He demanded  strong action against those responsible for the suicide and urged the government to provide compensation to the family.
