VIJAYAWADA: BJP state president Somu Veerraju slammed the YSR Congress government for renaming the NTR university of health sciences after former chief minister late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy by passing an amendment bill in the legislature.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the BJP state chief recalled the efforts of former chief minister late N.T. Rama Rao to bring all medical colleges in the undivided Andhra Pradesh under one umbrella by setting up a university for better governance.

He wondered how the NTR university of health sciences could be named after Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy and asked as to when did Rajasekhar Reddy join the YSRC. He wanted Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to give clarity on the issue.

Referring to the statements of minister for water resources Ambati Rambabu on setting up several government medical colleges in the state in the Assembly, the BJP senior leader flayed him and said that it was the Centre which sanctioned one medical college for each district in the state.
