Kozhikode: Former Chief Minister Oomman Chandy has raised serious concerns over the scenario in Uttar Pradesh after the election. “It is not the election result that needs to be pondered,” he said. “A person known for his extremist ideas, who was not even an MLA, has been sworn in as the Chief Minister.  That tendency is threatening the secular future of the country,” he said while speaking at the seminar, “Indian Politics after UP election’ conducted by MES here on Monday.

“Victory and defeat in elections are common and not a concern for worry. The threat is that a hardcore ideology-propagating man has reached the helm. This is unprecedented in a country where different kinds of people coexist,” he pointed out. These issues need to be dissected thoroughly rather than the election result, said Mr Chandy. But he admitted the debacle of the Congress in UP and said that defeat was a definite setback.
