Thrissur: Noted writer Anita Nair has termed the  Supreme Court verdict in the Soumya murder case  appalling and criticised the journalists  for not investigating who was financing  Govindaswamy. “In incidents like  the Jessica Lal murder case in Delhi, the journalists had brought out more facts about the convict,” she said during an interactive session at the C. Achutha Menon Government College at Kuttanellur here after delivering the Dr E.C. Antony memorial lecture on Monday.

“The verdict  seems lopsided in terms of justice and those with even an iota of common sense should have asked  how a man like Govindaswamy, a beggar, could  get an expensive lawyer to argue for him and where the money was coming from.   The investigative journalists and the editors are not asking this question that just about anyone else is asking,” she said. “In the Soumya case, the fourth estate has failed to do its dharma by keeping in check the judicial system and the police,” said the writer who has also penned crime novels.   She also announced  that her next work would a  book for children.
