Visakhapatnam: Principal, son killed in road accident, three left injured

The police said that the car hit the truck that was parked on the side of the road near a hotel.

Visakhapatnam: Two persons of a family died on the spot and three others suffered injuries after their car rammed a stationary truck (LPG cylinders-laden truck) on the National Highway 16 stretch near Velanki area under Anandapuram police station limits  on Saturdayc.

The deceased were identified as Satyanarayana Pathivada, 59, director, Gayatri College, and principal of a government junior college in Vizianagaram, and his son Pathivada Sandeep, 32, a software engineer. Satyanarayana's wife P Krishnaveni, his daughter-in-law P Anusha and his two-year-old grandson suffered injuries and they were admitted to a private hospital in the city, where Krishnaveni’s condition is said to be critical.  

Inspector of PM Palem (Traffic) S. Himabindu said that the accident occurred around 2.15 pm on Saturday when the family was driving to Vizianagaram from Visakhapatnam.

The police said that the car hit the truck that was parked on the side of the road near a hotel. The truck was parked on the side, with a part of it jutting onto the road. As the car was speeding at high speed, Satyanarayana, who was in the driver’s seat, lost control as he was trying to overtake another vehicle and rammed into the truck.  The impact of the accident was such that the front part of the car was completely damaged, Himabindu added.

Anandapuram police have filed a case against the driver of the truck. The police have shifted the bodies to KG Hospital for post-mortem.
