Vijayawada: Guntur range DIG Trivikram Varma on Sunday disclosed that they have evidence about people who have been responsible for violence and arson in Macherla.
Addressing media persons, the DIG said leaders of both parties (YSRC and TD) provoked each other, which led to the arson and violence. He asserted that strict action will be taken against those who have taken law into their hands.
Trivikram Varma said they have received complaints from the injured. He maintained that if a rally is being planned, its organisers should inform police. But in the Macherla case, members of the opposition party took out a procession through sensitive areas without providing any information to local police.
Following this, clashes between rival parties in Macherla went on between 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The DIG pointed out that cases have been registered under various sections in each and every incident that took place in Macherla. He underlined that they have come to know that people had been mobilised from surrounding villages by the Telugu Desam Party.
