3 news airports this year: Karnataka CM

BENGALURU: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said to open three new airports in the State this year besides another three airports will also be added next year.

Bommai, addressing the annual conference of South Indian Hotels and Restaurants Association in Bengaluru on Saturday evening, also assured to build airstrips to enable passengers to reach distant places. He, however, did not disclose the places where new airports would be built in the State.

At the conference, Bommai said to decongest the State capital and stated that it has been decided to build five new cities in the State with all modern facilities and it will be called “Nava Karnataka’ (New Karnataka in English).

Bommai stated “Traffic density is common in Bengaluru as lakhs of people come here on a daily basis, besides, there is also rapid increase in the number of people working in the city.”

He told the gathering that “Everyone loves Bengaluru and around 10,000 scientists visit the Bengaluru International Airport. Around 400 Research and Development labs are in Bengaluru and one of the most visited cities in the country.”

He assured to look into the demands of the Association to offer GST concession. Minister for Tourism Anand Singh and Association president Shyam Raju and office-bearers were present.
