Hubballi: Rowdies cut birthday cake with sword!

Hubballi: Giving  a menacing touch to what should be a joyous occasion, several rowdysheeters in the twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad are flexing their muscles by cutting their birthday cakes with a sword rather than the more homely knife. With three such birthday celebrations" held in the city in the presence of some local politicians over the last one month, the police has gone  into alert mode and panic has set in among people , who have seen  videos of the sword cake- cutting on social media.

 Hoping to restore people's confidence, police officials conducted surprise raids on the houses of rowdy-sheeters in the area on Monday. In all, raids were conducted at 42 different spots in the twin cities and pistols, swords, airguns, hockey sticks and several lethal weapons  seized.  The police also came across 1.5 kgs of ganja and detained over ten people under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS). 

"We will take strict action against those we have detained without bowing to any pressure from politicians to release them.We have already conducted raids on the houses of the rowdies as a precautionary measures," said Hubballi-Dharwad police commissioner, M N Nagaraj.
