HYDERABAD: About 200 students from Nizam College and E2 hostellers held a protest in front of the Vice-Chancellor's administration building.

A group of second-year Nizam College students along with student organisation activists attempted to enter the VC's chambers by breaking the windows, protesting the management's decision to relocate them for E2 hostel. This resulted in a minor scuffle with security personnel in which a PG second-year student was grievously injured.

Nizam College PG students claimed the administration was forcing second-year students living in the E2 hostel to relocate to the newly constructed Sarayu hostel which is far away from the library and the college..

OU registrar Prof. Pappula Laxminarayana told Deccan Chronicle that the hostel management was relocating the students to accommodate newcomers. The management was also working towards rooting out non-boarders.

Meanwhile, a group of self-financed Osmania University PG students, along with members of the Students Federation of India (SFI), presented their case to Vice-Chancellor Prof. D. Ravinder and registrar Prof. Laxminarayana for hostel facilities.

According to SFI leaders, the administration was denying mess and hostel facilities to self-financed students from low-income families who could not afford to stay in private hostels off campus.  We cannot allocate hostel facilities to self-financed students because there are not enough buildings," said the registrar.
