Fish festival to kickstart today in Kozhikode

Food stalls, convention, adalat to be part of three-day fest.

KOZHIKODE: The state fisheries department will host a 'Malsyolsavam' or fish festival in the city  with the aim of helping the fishermen community.  Fisheries minister Mercykutty Amma will inaugurate the  three-day festival at the beach open ground  on Saturday. An adalat will be organized for the fishermen   to solve their issues. The minister will  talk to the fishermen  and receive  their complaints.   The district administration has received over  3000 applications from the members of the community, said  collector U.V. Jose.

A  fish food fest will be conducted where over  100 women entrepreneurs from Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts will showcase their food and   food products.   Mayor Thottathil Raveendran will inaugurate  the food fest. Different varieties of consumable fishes will be displayed and special sea food court will be hosted.   A fish farmers' convention and seminar will be held on November 20.  Excise Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan will inaugurate a  fishermen get-together on November 21.      Experts will speak on the  'Impact of GST on the fishermen community' at the seminar.
