Rs 1.5 crore in house of Pondicherry MLA who quit for CM

Puducherry: I-T sleuths conducted raids on Nellithope’s former Congress MLA  A. John Kumar’s residence here on Saturday, leaving the party leadership fuming.

Seven I-T officials from Chennai started their search around 2 pm and continued till late in the night. The outcome of the search is not immediately known but unconfirmed reports say officials seized about Rs 1.5 crore from the house.

Two days ago, Mr Kumar had resigned his legislator post to enable Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy to contest in the by-election.

Opposition parties had raised allegations that Mr Kumar had resigned the post after accepting money which he denied later.

There were also allegations that the former MLA was distributing freebies to voters to influence them in the by-election. Mr Kumar, a businessman by profession, has around 18 different business establishments all around the state.
