Malappuram: The body of a youth, who jumped into the Kadalundi river near Malappuram town to evade the police on Tuesday,  was recovered on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Pratheesh, 21,  a resident of NGO quarters at Munduparamba near Malappuram. A  police team, which was tipped-off  about the anti-social activities of a gang on Independecne Day,  had launched a search on the banks of the river near Kavungal bypass in the town.  Seeing the police, the gang members jumped into the river. Some had run away. The police caught one of them,  Rajesh, 19,   and  arrested him.

They seized  6.8 g of hashish oil from him and  later released him on bail.  The police also saved one of the members   who jumped into the river and fell unconscious.  He was admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College where he remains stable. Pratheesh had gone  missing after the incident. Following a complaint lodged by his parents, the police and fire force searched the  river and recovered his body around 12 noon on Thursday.  “The  arrested youth  hadn’t revealed anything about Pratheesh,” said  Mr Premjith, the inspector of Malappuram.
