Hyderabad: The state government asked farmers to advance the rabi sowing season by a month to save crops from unseasonal rains in March every year.

The rabi season begins from October but farmers in several districts delay sowing till December. Due to this, the crops reach harvest stage in March-April when the state is witnessing unseasonal rains for the past few years.

Agriculture minister Niranjan Reddy on Friday visited a few mandals in Vikarabad district to assess the damage caused to crops due to heavy rains on Thursday.

He interacted with farmers and promised to take up the issue to the notice of the Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and ensure they get compensation.

The minister requested farmers to follow the model of Nizamabad,

Kamareddy, Bodhan, Suryapet farmers who sow rabi crops early and ensure they get harvest before March thereby saving their crops from unseasonal rains in March-April every year.
