HYDERABAD: In an innovative push, the Rachakonda commissionerate will introduce the "She for her" awareness programme for female students in Class VII through PG in all schools and colleges within its limits. The awareness campaign will educate female students on the rise in drug abuse and cybercrime in an effort to prevent them from being victims of these crimes and better equip them to combat them.

Rachakonda commissioner D. S. Chauhan, who took charge on December 31 last year, told Deccan Chronicle that his top priority would be educating the
public about cybercrime and preventing people, especially women and senior
citizens, from falling victim to cyberstalking, online fraudsters, and drug peddlers. Throughout the programme, girls will be educated about the laws and regulations for their safety.

“Our SHE Teams, which are a part of the IT cell department, will be visiting every school and college to make sure that the students have a clear understanding of cybercrime and drug awareness. Additionally, one of the active students in school and college campus will be chosen by our trained police. Our personnel will educate the students about the modus operandi of cyberstalkers, fraudsters, and drug peddlers. After receiving training, they will be able to educate their family members. For example, they can educate the elderly in the family about the pitfalls of online banking,” said Chauhan.

According to the top cop, there has been an increase in cybercrime, with drug dealers and cyber stalkers preying on society's most vulnerable and unsuspecting groups, primarily women and students.  He expressed optimism
that the "She for Her" awareness campaign will be effective and that the younger generation will be taught how to identify, detect, and report anyone trying to make them a target. The Rachakonda commissioner recently held an education programme about drug abuse and how it affects students' aspirations and future career goals in a college at Meerpet, and many such awareness campaigns will be held across schools and colleges under its limits, he said.

The Ghatkesar police recently nabbed four online stalkers who were sending
abusive videos and messages to female BTech college students. In another
case, the Rachakonda police (cybercrime wing) detained a cybercriminal for
defrauding a loan applicant of 17 lakh. The accused Ramesh Elumalai called
two people on the phone in a conference call, introduced himself as
Varmaraj, a loan provider, and offered them Rs 9 crore loans at 1% interest.
The accused gathered the Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account information from the
victim and collected Rs 17 lakh, claiming he needed the cash to avoid paying
GST and TDS. The cyber crime department of the Rachakonda police traced the
accused’s location and nabbed the cybercriminal within two days.

In yet another case, the Rachakonda IT cell sleuths detained two Nigerians
from New Delhi. The accused Okwuchukwu and Obiwuru Jonathan Hzaka defrauded an ophthalmologist in Kushaiguda by opening a "Love Spell Caster" on Google and saying they would provide special prayers for her marriage in exchange for Rs 12 lakh.
