Warangal civic body among top 10 in Nurturing Neighbourhood Challenge

Warangal: Of the 63 cities which were in competition, the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) has secured a place in the top ten civic bodies in the Nurturing Neighbourhood Challenge (NNC) organised by the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs.
The programme was launched in 2020 with an aim to focus on early childhood in designing neighbourhood-level improvements to promote the health and well-being of young children and their caregivers.
Under the Smart City project, the GWMC had taken up renovation of anganwadi centres, improving road security measures. Footpaths, signalling on roads, development of children’s parks along with providing interactive games to the children were planned and the proposals sent in February 2021.
Out of 63 cities which submitted their proposals, around 25 cities were selected in the stage one competition including GWMC.
After completing the challenge in the first stage under NNC, the Centre selected top ten cities among which was the GWMC.
Speaking on the achievement, GWMC commissioner P. Praveenya said that under the scale of planning category, the GWMC is going to improve the neighbourhood areas along with providing security to infants and small children and develop micro parks.
Mayor Gundu Sudharani congratulated the officials and staff members of the GWMC whose work resulted in the corporation getting a top rank.
