Bizman on padayatra to save Medaram from plastic
Medaram and its surroundings are getting polluted in several ways during the jatara.
Warangal: A 36-year-old businessman and nature lover, Kolipaka Prakash, has embarked on a 100-km march from Kazipet to Medaram with a message to save Medaram from pollution caused due to the use of plastic during the biennial fair held from January 31 to February 3.
“My intention is to meet villagers along my way and explain to them how plastic damages the environment. I wish to appeal to the people to celebrate the jatara in an eco-friendly way,” Mr Prakash said, while starting his march from Kazipet on Wednesday.
Medaram and its surroundings are getting polluted in several ways during the jatara. Tons of plastic gets accumulated. The situation is turning worse every year.
The use of plastic in the jatara is high as more than one crore people converge. Water bottles, plastic plates, glasses, carry bags, etc contribute to the accumulation of plastic waste.
“This pollution is harming the ecosystem. We need to stop this before it is too late. The solution to this problem is to promote the use of jute bags and the reusable materials. Plastic should be strictly banned at the jatara,” he suggested.
Arpana Syal, Warangal district forest officer, flagged off the march and thanked Prakash for taking up the initiative.
