Vishakapatnam: Tribal Welfare Department is organising a carnival, craft exhibition and a tribal festival at the RK Beach. The events that started on Tuesday will continue till November 21.

Tribal Cultural Research and Training Mission director Ravindra Babu said the programme is being organised under the auspices of the union ministry of tribal affairs, so that contributions of tribal leaders to freedom struggle could be recognised.

The festivities started on Tuesday with the Tribal Pride Day on the Beach Road in which hundreds of people marched from the Alluri Sitharama Raju statue near Park Hotel to Viswapriya Function Hall.

Colourfully attired tribes people performed Kommu, Dhimsa and other ethnic dances as they marched down the three-km route.

Deputy Chief Minister Peedika Rajanna Dora released balloons to mark the festival's beginning. He walked around the stalls that have been set up at the venue featuring bamboo crafts, clay creations and jute bags.
