Warangal: Congressmen under the leadership of Vemulawada assembly segment party in-charge Adi Srinivas staged a dharna on Wednesday, demanding that the officials immediately take up restoration works of the Bommena bridge.

The bridge had collapsed four months ago due to heavy flow of floodwater under it in the Bommena village of Kathalapur mandal in Rajanna Sircilla district.

Srinivas, who is also the official spokesperson of the TPCC, said vehicular movement between the Kathalapur and Medipalli mandals came to a halt due to the bridge collapse. “The farmers and others of both the mandals are facing a lot of difficulties. They have no road communication for a distance of 30km now.”

Former minister and Congress MLC T Jeevan Reddy had taken the issue to the concerned officials and urged them to undertake immediate repair works. But neither the officials nor the local public representatives are showing any interest in restoring the bridge.

Vexed over this, the farmers of Bommena village had organised `50,000 from their own pockets and laid a temporary road. There are around 800 acres of fields that require daily access on the other side of the bridge.

Srinivas urged the local MLA Ch Ramesh Babu, minister KT Rama Rao and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to act immediately and help start the bridge restoration works.

Congress leaders K Nagaraju, Md Azeem, T Anjaiah, A Devareddy, D Dhanujay Reddy, V Srihari, K Gangadhar, A Linga Goud, B Sudhakar, V Sathyanarayana, U Chari, B Srinivas, H Chowdhari, Ranjith, P Tirupathi Reddy, K Shankar, B Sanjeev and M Suresh were among those present.
