HYDERABAD: The Sri Yellamma Pochamma Devalayam, also known as Balkampet Yellamma temple, is preparing for the nine-day Dasara celebrations that will begin on September 26.

The temple management is making elaborate arrangements for the expected rush of more than one lakh devotees, including erecting railings to streamline long queues and providing easy access for the differently-abled, the elderly and pregnant women. On Sundays and Tuesdays, the temple is crowded with people, and it is well-known for the annual Bonalu festivities.

“The queue outside the temple used to extend over a hundred metres because there were no regulation of the devotees. After regulations imposed during Covid-induced lockdown were relaxed, the number of devotees has increased. We are getting ready for the Dasara celebrations with one objective in mind: the devotees should not encounter any inconvenience," said temple executive officer S. Annapurna.

Interestingly, Nita Ambani of Reliance Industries visits the temple to seek the blessings of goddess Yellamma every time she travels to Hyderabad.
