V S Achuthanandan seeks arrest in Jishnu Pranoy suicide case

The petition pleads their arrest so that more students will come forward to depose.

VALAYAM (KOZHIKODE): Veteran CPM leader and Administrative Reforms Commission chair V.S, Achuthanandan, on Thursday visited the house of Jishnu Pranoy, who died in mysterious circumstances at his college hostel, and pacified his mother Mahija amidst emotional scenes. "Jishnu's parents are saying that the college management killed their son," he told reporters who gathered there. "The accused should be arrested at the earliest, and the genuine concerns of parents should be addressed."

Mr Achuthanandan spent hardly 15 minutes at the house in Valayam where Ms Mahija submitted a petition demanding Adv C.P. Udayabhanu as a special public prosecutor. The petition pleads their arrest so that more students will come forward to depose. "Destruction of the CCTV footage and reluctant to hand over the towel which he allegedly used for hanging, to forensic inspection point to an attempt to derail the probe. The autopsy was also conducted violating rules to destroy the evidence," alleged his relative Sreejith. Jishnu was found hanging in his hostel room at Nehru College Pampady a month back. After the death, the mother had sent an open letter to chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressing her dissatisfaction with him not visited the bereaved family. The police submitted a report to the court after the relatives warned of an indefinite fast.
