Hyderabad: Six children were bitten by dogs in two separate incidents on Friday. One incident occurred in Jawaharnagar, where a child was injured. In Shamshabad, in different colonies, five dog bite cases were reported, all of them in the evening.

The affected areas in Shamshabad included Narsingh Mandir basti, Khaji galli, Makhta Bahudri Ali basti, Haimadnagar, and Sajid Colony.

Some of the seriously injured children were rushed to Osmania Hospital by their parents, while others received treatment near their homes.

The horrifying incident reminded residents of a similar event in Madhuranagar in December 2021 when a dog attacked nearly 30 children. People in many areas of Shamshabad were concerned about the safety of children after the incident.

Chintala Nanda Kishore, a resident of Shamshabad, said, "There are numerous stray dogs in most of colonies here. These dogs are getting aggressive over the past few days." He added, "Many residents have informed the authorities, but there has been no relief."

Civic authorities have responded to the situation in a similar manner as they in earlier incidents. They stated, "The authorities are continuously conducting drives, and the captured dogs are sterilised and released after receiving vaccinations."

Dr M. Madhusudhan, deputy director, animal husbandry, and a veterinary expert, issued an advisory, cautioning, "People need to be cautious during the monsoon season, especially when it comes to children. These dogs may attack anyone, but children are more likely to suffer severe injuries."

He further explained, "During the monsoon season, dogs, both male and female, are agitated due to mating season. Male dogs may become more competitive, and their aggression may be redirected towards passing humans."
