Hyderabad: A public interest litigation has been moved before the Hyderabad High Court seeking a stay on the distribution of financial aid to farmers under the Rythu Bandhu scheme in the ensuing Rabi season till the completion of Assembly elections.

Advocate K. Anthony Reddy moved the PIL seeking a direction to the Election Commission and the Chief Electoral Officer to complete the elections to the Assembly before the financial aid is distributed.

He told the court that the government was paying Rs 4,000 per acre per season, and had distributed cheques to farmers for the Kharif season in May.

The government had released Rs 5,925 crore to be distributed for the Rabi season. If this financial assitance was distributed before the Assembly elections it would impact the voters.
