Motor Vehicles Department books 25 vehicles for violations in Thiruvananthapuram

Several vehicles were seized for non-payment of taxes.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: About 25 heavy vehicles were booked by the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) in a late night drive on Thursday against various violations like overloading and non-payment of taxes. According to MVD sources, the heavy vehicles were seized from Kerala-Tamil Nadu border areas near Neyyatinkara. All the vehicles entered Kerala from Tamil Nadu through entry points where there are no check posts of MVD. As many as 17 vehicles were found to be overloaded.

The height of the loads in some of the vehicles was also found to be exceeding  the prescribed limits. Most of these vehicles were carrying building materials like cement and bricks as well as essential commodities like rice. Several vehicles were seized for non-payment  of taxes. Driving licences of six vehicles were suspended. Fines to the tune of Rs. 1.5 lakh were collected from the vehicles. The drive was initiated by south-zone enforcement regional transport officer P.M. Shaji. The mobile enforcement squads booked the vehicles. Similar checks would be carried out in the coming days also, MVD sources said.
