ALAPPUZHA: Union Minister for  Information and Broadcasting Smriti Irani on Saturday castigated the Indian Communists saying that they had  a history of supporting anti-nationals. She was addressing a reception accorded to the Janaraksha Yatra led by state president Kummanam Rajasekharan  at Chengannur. “Whenever democracy was threatened, the  Communists took the side of the rivals. During India- China war, they  favoured China. They also criticised the surgical strike conducted by India on Pakistani terrorists. Kodiyeri Balakrishan continues to be the state secretary of the CPM though he abused the Indian Army. The CPM did not even condemn his attack  on the security forces. This attitude shows  their attitude to this country. They not only butcher  democracy,  but also  breed jihadists,” she  said.

Ms Irani said that the Communists should be given a fitting reply for  indulging in the anti-democratic activities. “At least 84 BJP-RSS martyrs in Kerala out of 286 are from the chief minister’s native place.  When Pinarayi Vijayan met me in Delhi, he had promised me steps to stop the violence. However, he didn’t walk the talk,”  Ms Irani pointed out. If the CPM was not interested in political killings, they would not have inducted M.M. Mani as a   minister, she alleged.         The sacrifice of the martyrs and their families  would not go in vain, she said. “We will get justice done to each family. All eleven crore BJP members are with them. The BJP workers will fight CPM’s violent politics standing  shoulder-to-shoulder,” she added.

The function was presided over by Saju Idakkallil, president, Chengannur constituency committee. BJP national spokesperson Gopalakrishna Agarwal, state leaders  V. Muraleedharan, P.K. Krishnadas,  M.T. Ramesh, A.N. Radhakrishnan, K.Surendran and BJP Alappuzha district president K. Soman were among those who attended the function.
