Kozhikode: Rash and negligent driving continues to cause more deaths in different parts of the District. On Wednesday, three deaths were reported from Feroke where a six-year-old boy, and Mukkam where a 43-year-old woman and her 13-year-old daughter, were  killed.

The boy has been identified as Nivedh, son of Sudheer, who was traveling to Kannur from Thrissur in the early hours of Wednesday. The accident was reported from Feroke when the car in which the boy and his family were travelling lost control and hit a lorry. Three others in the car including the parents of Nivedh have been admitted to a private hospital. In the accident reported at Mukkam, the deceased has been identified as Sheeba, teacher at Mukkam Orphanage School, and her daughter Hiftha. The mother and daughter were traveling in their bike which was hit by a speeding lorry. Even on Monday, four people were killed in two different accidents reported from Ramanattukara and Thondayad bypass.

Records of the District Crime Records Bureau reveal that from January to June this year, 76 people have been killed in various accidents reported in various parts of the district and a majority of them were reported from Mukkam, Thamarassery and Thiruvambadi regions.

“These three areas have the highest number of crusher units in the district and hence the number of trucks and lorries plying through these regions are high”, said Rameshan Nambiar, a social activist at Thamarassery. The speeding and rash driving of the majority of drivers have caused several accidents here.
These drivers had also ignored the court's order not to ply during school hours, he added.
