Vijayawada city police have taken up a programme of felicitating more than 100 women in the city who did extensive work in various fields.

Bengaluru: While the city police have clearly stated that the death of a Nigerian national was due to road accident, African citizens are circulating posts on social networking sites that it was a murder by the police.

Ifeanyi Madu, a 28-year-old Nigerian, had died on Sunday night when he along with another African tried to escape on a scooter after the CCB police tried to stop them, on suspicion that they were drug peddlers.

Madu sustained fatal head injuries as the scooter skidded and later succumbed. A day after the incident, Africans are now posting messages in Facebook that it was a murder.

However, Police Commissioner Praveen Sood told Deccan Chronicle that it was clear case of accident. “If anybody has any doubts related to the circumstances of his death, they are welcome to file a complaint. We will investigate it. Also, if they want a investigation by any other agency, we are ready to face it,”  Sood said.

Madu’s postmortem is yet to conducted as the police are waiting for his parents to arrive in Bengaluru. “It will take a few days’ time and everything will be clear once the post mortem report is ready. We are still in search of the other suspect, who sped away even after his associate fell from the scooter,” another official said.
