Thiruvananthapuram:  The CPM state secretariat has said that the High Court decision to ban organisational activities of student organisations in campuses would have far reaching consequences in the state. The CPM leadership said the order banning processions, strike and satyagraha had elated the people who are using running education institutions as commercial ventures.

The absence of progressive student organisations and progressive movement would result in anarchy and extremism, it warned. It said the state had witnessed how students were tortured in some of the self financing private colleges where special torture rooms had been earmarked. In some instances the students had even taken the extreme step. It is natural for  student organisations to agitate against denial of justice, the party said.

CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said banning the genuine agitations of the student organisations would ultimately lead to total restriction on organisational activities of student organisations. He said the division bench order was not in consonance with the progressive outlook and the court should reconsider it.
