Stranded family rescued; red alert near dams

Several low-lying areas and colonies in Peddapalli municipality were submerged in floodwater

KARIMNAGAR: Four members of a family including two children who were stranded in a function hall due to the recent heavy rains were rescued by a team of expert swimmers here in Rangampally village of Peddapalli district on Wednesday.

Due to heavy and incessant rains for the past few days, several low-lying areas and colonies in Peddapalli municipality were submerged in floodwater.

The family, and caretakers of the function hall, who were stranded informed the locals about their situation. On receiving the information, Peddapalli MLA Dasari Manohar Reddy, along with a team of expert swimmers, rushed to the spot. They asked officials of the electricity department to stop power supply to the area. Using thermocol sheets, the team rescued the family safely.

Meanwhile, traffic between Suraiahpally and Eglaspur and Peddapalli and Jagtial came to a halt as the roads were submerged in floodwater. The women and child care centre on the outskirts of Peddapalli town was also totally submerged in rainwater.
