Hyderabad: Hurdles in acquiring land for the prestigious Pharma City project are said to be the main reasons for the delay in its implementation.

The Pharma City was initially proposed to be built at Mucherla on around 11,000 acres falling under three mandals – two in Ranga Reddy district (Kandukuru and Yacharam mandal) and Amangal in Mahbubnagar district. However, plans changed with the Centre giving it National Investment and Manufacturing Zones status.

The state government then decided to acquire at least 12,500 acre of land as per the guidelines of NIMZ.

TS Industrial Infrastructure Corporation called global tenders for Expression of Interest for the master plan of the project last year. However, since the bidders did not meet the TSIIC’s requirements, it opted for Request for Proposal and the last date for submitting Detailed Project Report by global companies was May 10.

As per schedule, work on the ground had to start by January, 2016, but due to the delay in land acquisition, this couldn’t happen.

The government has issued a GO regarding the land acquisition, fixing the compensation at Rs 12.5 lakh per acre for patta lands and '8 lakh per acre for assigned lands.

While identifying the lands for acquisition, revenue officials found that several records had errors, accumulated over the years.

A source said that the revenue department was focusing on government and assigned lands in the initial stage.
