Naidu to start pilot project to develop NTR's Nimmakuru

VIJAYAWADA: Telugu Desam chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu has said N.T. Rama Rao's entry and formation of the Telugu Desam in 1982 brought radical changes in the political scenario not only in the combined Andhra Pradesh but also across the country.

Naidu promised to introduce a plan for the development of Nimmakuru. A pilot project aimed at removing the economic imbalances in the state would be launched from here, he said on Thursday.

In an interaction with villagers of Nimmakuru, the birthplace of NTR marking the legendary leader’s ongoing birth anniversary celebrations, Chandrababu said, "We are really fortunate to participate in such an event. The name of Nimmakuru will remain etched in history."

Naidu said anyone after the age of 60 would like to “spend his life with his children. But NTR floated the TD to help the people and came to power within nine months. NTR played a key role in national politics too by partnering with the National Front, he said.

Chandrababu promised to formulate a concept for the development of Nimmakuru. “By May 28, all the works will be launched to take Nimmakuru forward socially, culturally and economically. Let us all pay rich tributes to NTR on May 28 and I am really fortunate enough to have an overnight stay in Nimmakuru and to have an interaction with all of you," he said.

Earlier in the day, there was tension around the office of YSRC’s Gudivada MLA Kodali Venkateswara Rao alias Nani, when Telugu Desam supporters aired slogans against Nani and the YSRC government. Nani’s supporters rushed to the spot and retaliated against TD cadres. The situation turned tense for a while and police drove away the rival groups to restore normalcy.
