Kozhikode: The city police has tightened the security steps in view of Vishu on Friday.  Policemen have been deployed at various areas in the city to ensure smooth traffic and security for the people.    SM Street, the major shopping street,  and malls  were  crowded ahead of the festival.    “Hundreds of newly registered vehicles and those from nearby towns and other districts reached the city on Thursday,”  said traffic official N. Yusaf. Parking was the biggest problem  as the city lacks parking space.

More policemen were deployed at  Kozhikode beach and Butt road beach due to regulate the crowd. Some traffic curbs were enforced in these areas,  he  added. Palayam  and Velliyangadi markets were also  crowded with shoppers.  Traders said that  though prices of vegetables and fruits had shot up, the business was not affected.
