The HDF has identified 110 step wells to be featured in the book. HDF president Yeshwant Ramamurthy said the focus was to document unknown yet significant step wells. He said ten architects had been conducting the research.

Arvind Kumar, special chief secretary, MA&UD, said the restoration of the Moazzam Jahi Market showed the government the enormity of the work of restoration but also gave confidence to take up restoration of more structures.
