Kottayam: The government has not abandoned the Athirapally project and will implement it if there is a consensus, according to Electricity Minister M.M. Mani. “The project will facilitate the development of the state by generating more power,” he told reporters at Chettukuzhy in Idukki district. He welcomed  the statement of former chief minister Oommen Chandy that it should be implemented on the basis of a consensus. It was unfortunate that environmentalists were blocking the state’s progress  by opposing hydro-electric schemes, he said.
