Vijayawada: The unveiling of the 125-feet-tall statue of Bharat Ratna Dr BR Ambedkar will be done at the hands of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on January 19.

Chief secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy said on Friday that week-long celebrations will be held at the Ambedkar memorial for a week till January 26.

A public meeting would be held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium after the unveiling of the Ambedkar statue. Representatives of Ambedkar youth groups from all districts will participate in these programmes in large numbers.

The chief secretary said traffic problems could arise in Vijayawada as a large number of people would be attending the events. “So, instead of everyone coming on the same day, it would be better if the celebrations are organised for a week -- until January 26,”  the CS stated at a review meet he held here on Friday.

“Up to 20,000 people from two or three districts, as also the Ambedkar youth groups and others might come every day for a week after the inauguration ceremony,” the CS said.
