GHMC Fails to Clear Bills, Contractors in Despair

HYDERABAD: Over 3000 contractors of GHMC, whose bills are pending for quite a long time, have been going through financial problems, including huge debts. One of them, Bonthu Venkatesh, died by suicide as he was unable to bear the trauma. The GHMC reportedly has to clear bills to the tune of Rs 1,000 crore till March.

Surender Singh, general secretary, GHMC contractors Association, said “Venkatesh resorted to the extreme step while another contractor Yadaiah died of heart attack. On Monday, Yadgiri was admitted to hospital after suffering a heart attack. We are seeking settlement of bills of works that we have completed. The authorities cannot take us for granted.”

MA Quader ul Haq said “Md Sattar died of heart attack. Each of us is facing financial problems.”

P. Vasant Kumar, vice-president of the Association, said, “We have been meeting the commissioner but there is no use. This mess is because of the government’s mismanagement.”
