THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former chief minister Oommen Chandy has alleged that the LDF government was  trying to drown the youngsters in liquor and asked the people to join hands to fight against the new liquor policy.    Inaugurating the Congress party's state-wide protest in front of the secretariat against the government's decision to reopen closed bars, Mr Chandy called upon the people to forget political differences and resist the government’s agenda.

The Congress also staged dharnas in front of  district collectorates on Monday to protest against the relaxation of  the  distance limits for bars in four-star and above category hotels. "The LDF  has betrayed the people of Kerala by somersaulting on its electoral promise and helping the liquor mafia to earn money,"  said Mr Chandy. He also alleged that the Pinarayi government had sabotaged the good policies of the UDF government.  It was not even keen on providing ration to  the poor, he said. "The government did not provide  five kilos of rice and one kilo of sugar to ration card holders for  Onam, violating its promise,” he  added.
